Kirill Osherov
Hi, I’m Kirill.
I started my journey as a musician in 2010 by taking workshops at the Labyrinth festival on Crete Island, Greece. Back in 2005, while attending ethnic percussion classes, I saw the importance of exploring tradition, so I went straight to the source and learned from the best. I soon had the chance to enhance my skills with masters like Pedram Khavarzamini, Zohar Fresko, Misirli Ahmet, and Aleix Tobias.
Not long after, I became the only percussionist in Russia to master the classical Iranian tombak, a remarkable instrument with a unique deep trace sound that showcases a musician’s refined technique.
In 2016, I began a series of musical experiments with the Hang drum, which helped me develop my talent for melody composition. This new musical direction led to collaborations with Gennady Lavrentiev, Paata Chekaberia, and the Treugolnyy Son Project. Together, we created an exciting fusion of World, Ethno, and Jazz styles, with our first performances under the Russian Chillrave label, LevelDva. Now, our work is recognized as one of the most innovative styles in the live music scene.
I’ve had the opportunity to share the stage with amazing musicians and projects, including Ross Daly, Kelly Thoma, Efren Lopes, Pedram Khavarzamini, Zohar Fresco, Derya Turkan, Misirli Ahmet, Aleix Tobias, and many more.
I also compose music for theater, cinema, and audiobooks, conduct music seminars in natural settings across Russia, and teach at a percussion school in Moscow. Additionally, I’m a member of the international orchestra “Mitos,” led by Ross Daly in Crete.
I am very grateful to the Mudra Workshop for realizing my long-held dream of owning an extended Aegean scale. This instrument has given me countless opportunities, not only for its beautiful harmonic possibilities but also due to its special surface quality. As a professional percussionist, I value the surface’s grip—it allows my fingers to hold steady, which is crucial for my techniques. The clarity of each note, both fundamental and overtones, is remarkable. I wish everyone could have such a jewel! (The surface he mentions is the AISI 439.)
